Error codes are labels, not diagnoses
Every medical and aesthetic laser we service can throw an error code — a "lamp fault," a "chiller alarm," a "high-voltage error," a bare number without a description. The instinct is to look up the code, order the part it seems to name, and swap it. That instinct is often wrong, and it's expensive.
An error code is the system's best guess based on which sensor tripped. It doesn't know whether the sensor is bad, whether the component the sensor is monitoring is degraded, or whether something upstream is causing the reading. Chasing the label instead of the cause is how practices end up paying for the same symptom twice.
What we ask for on the first call
When you contact A1 Plus Laser Tech about a fault, a technician wants the same information every time. If you have this ready, you'll get to a real diagnostic conversation faster:
- Manufacturer, model, and serial number. The serial narrows firmware revisions and known service issues.
- The exact error text and code number. Phone photos of the screen are better than typed notes.
- What was happening when it appeared. Startup? During a treatment? After the machine sat idle? Right after a power event? Right after a move?
- Whether it clears and returns. Intermittent faults are diagnosed differently than persistent ones.
- Any recent changes. New location, new outlet, new coolant, new filter, new handpiece — everything counts.
Three common patterns
Lamp faults. A "lamp" code doesn't always mean the flashlamp is at end of life. Weak ignition supplies, aged trigger circuits, marginal reservoir capacitors, and cooling flow issues can all present as "lamp." We check the whole ignition path before recommending an assembly.
Chiller and cooling codes. These are almost always about flow, not the chiller unit. Clogged filters, marginal sensors, air in the loop, or wrong coolant chemistry trip cooling codes far more often than pump failures.
High-voltage errors. HV codes should never be troubleshot by an untrained user. Capacitors in these sections can store lethal charge. Call service and describe the fault — don't open the enclosure.
When to stop using the laser
If the system throws an error and then clears, but pulse energy feels off, treatment endpoints look different, or the handpiece is warm in a way it wasn't before — stop using it and call. A laser that continues to fire while a fault is present can damage optics, delivery systems, or patients.
What good service looks like after this
A diagnostic-led shop will ask questions, not immediately quote parts. When we visit, we validate the fault against the symptoms, isolate the cause, and only then discuss what has to be replaced.
